austin bee helpers

I gave a beekeeping talk Saturday to about twenty interested bee people where I outlined beekeeping by pointing out the bad advice most new beekeepers get. Here is a short list:
Entrance feeders (Danger)
The need for queen excluders (there is none)
The trouble with purchasing a “starter hive” (plastic foundation in full sheets)
Feeding bees sugar or corn syrup (although the bees don’t die immediately from it)
Buying “marked” or “clipped” queens (because a maimed queen costs more)
Replacing queens every year (as though your bees don’t know what they’re doing)
Stopping swarms (as though swarming was a bad thing)
I recorded the talk, if you are that kind of person. Here is the first part, and there are ten altogether. Under each video (at youtube) is a listing of the contents of each segment. Go to youtube to see the other parts..
Best wishes for the new season!
